Why these three rain pants

Halfway Anywhere’s 2026 PCT gear guide records that 53.6% of hikers carried rain pants. That page does not publish a three-model pants table the way it does for traction. These three are named in independent tests we read: CleverHiker on Versalite, Helium, and Trailmade; Treeline Review on the Helium UL; Adventure Alan on ultralight rain pants.

Montbell Versalite is the lightest pair in that set. Outdoor Research Helium UL is the more durable ultralight with ankle zips. REI Co-op Trailmade is the co-op value pair CleverHiker names as a budget rain pant. Patagonia Torrentshell 3L is the pants model Halfway Anywhere names in passing; it is not this three. Frogg Toggs on that survey is the rain suit, not a pants ranking.
